We have just received a very nice email from the lovely owners of the Rattray Head Lighthouse Compound advising that they are putting their lighthouse buildings up for sale. Originally these were formatted as FIVE lighthouse keepers’ dwellings for the nearby lighthouse [tower not included in sale]. Currently the lighthouse buildings at Rattray Head are being utilised as a bed and breakfast with home attached.

This LIGHTHOUSE TOWER is NOT Included In This Sale
The above photograph is the offshore lighthouse tower at Rattray Head. The onshore former lighthouse keepers’ dwellings are now run as a wonderfully located hostel by the current owners.
This is almost unique amongst the unique. A very cost effective way of visiting and staying at a former lighthouse keeper’s dwelling.

We don’t normally include these details.. But would wish prospective buyers to understand that these buildings command a great deal of love and affection during the ownership of any person lucky enough to live in a lighthouse station.
This evidences the relationship built up between ourselves, as fellow lighthouse station owners (Ailsa Craig Island Lighthouse Station + Strathy Point Lighthouse Station and Noss Head Station) with the owners of Rattray Head Lighthouse Station.
If Rattray Head Lighthouse Station does come back up for sale, you may be very lucky and have an opportunity to live in one of these magnificent locations and join a community of folk who just love living in lighthouse buildings.

Rattray Head Lighthouse Station Hostel
Prior to being placed for sale in May 2015, this lighthouse compound has been operated as a B&B plus hostel accommodation. A place to rest and relax among huge dunes and 11 mile beach. This former lighthouse shore station is the most easterly part of mainland Scotland opposite the northern tip of Denmark. This is one of the driest, sunniest areas of Scotland and many hours can be spent exploring the shipwrecks and village and chapel ruins.
The main accommodation block was built of granite in 1892.
Situated by the North Sea Trail footpath and the Aberdeenshire Coastal Trail which follow the North Sea coastline. The North Sea Cycle Route (Sustrans Route 1) is only 17 miles away where it passes through this historic area full of stone circles, castle ruins and golf courses.
Location: Lighthouse Cottages, Rattray Head, Rattray, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. AB42 3HA.
